As part of the new EU VAT reforms, the IOSS scheme comes into force on 1 July 2021. It will basically simplify the VAT obligations of sellers or facilitating marketplaces – based or not in the European Union – that have final consumers within the EU.

If your business is not based in the EU, you will need to appoint an EU-established intermediary to fulfill your VAT obligations to IOSS. Under the Non-Union scheme, businesses will have to designate an EU-resident Intermediary – a type of VAT agent – to represent them to use IOSS.

The Intermediary shares the responsibilities for the supplier under the IOSS regime – submissions of returns and VAT payments. They will help companies to obtain their unique identification number to use with customs clearance processes, in other words, an IOSS VAT identification number will be needed for each seller.

Other taxable persons (i.e. businesses established in the EU) are free to appoint an intermediary, but it’s not mandatory to do so.

Non-Union Scheme Registration

Non-EU established suppliers that wish to register for the Non-Union scheme in Ireland, must provide the following information:

  • Company name;
  • Trading name;
  • Address;
  • Website URLs;
  • Contacts;
  • National tax reference number;
  • Power of Attorney;
  • Bank details.

Union Scheme Registration

Businesses based in the EU can get registered for the IOSS considering the following scenarios:

  • On the respective tax authority website where the business is established or appoint an intermediary to do so on their behalf;
  • Where your business is established outside the EU and you have one fixed establishment in the EU. You must register for the IOSS in the Member State where that fixed establishment is located;
  • Where your business is established outside the EU and you have fixed establishments in more than one Member State. You can choose any of the Member States in which you have a fixed establishment to register for IOSS.

Don’t wait any longer. As an official intermediary, we can give you all the necessary support to have your business registered for IOSS. Send us a message at info@mydutycollect.com or customer@mydutycollect.com for more information. Subscribe to our blog and visit our website for more updates.
